Transfer Speculation and Gossip

Elliott Jackson reporting that John Fleck will be unlikely to get a new deal. Twelve-month contract options for Sam Gallagher and Tyrhys Dolan will be triggered.

He also claims that the areas Eustace will want to bring players in for include a centre-back to cover for Wharton's absence, cover for the full-back positions (could that be Duro going out on loan?), and a centre-forward.

What is the issue with O’Riordan? We paid good money for him but he’s not been around the first team. I thought he would be a back up for Wharton as well as McFadzean.

I think it's simply a case of being one for next season or beyond. O'Riordan is still very young for a defender at 20, but if he can live up to his promise, I think we'll see him in and around the first team next season.

He came in at the oddest time. A week later, Tomasson departed. He's been on the bench a few times, but I think with Hyam, Wharton, McFadzean, and Carter, not to mention Koumetio (I want us to look at him again as he could easily be a fans' favourite), I think it was a case of not dumping him into a difficult situation too early. It's a big step-up to the Championship from League One. I remember us all questioning whether or not Dack would even manage to make it after our promotion.

Doesn't sound like Duncan McGuire wants to come back after what we put him through.

"It's tough to say," McGuire told GOAL."That was a pretty bad mistake, a pretty bad mistake by them. I'd be open to maybe having a conversation but it would have to be a lot to get me to go back there. On the plane ride back, I just felt like my tail was between my legs. I asked my agent how often this happens and he was like 'This doesn't happen'."

One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that, now the Venkys usual funding doesn't seem like it will be an issue this summer, that we're back in for McGuire on a permanent deal for £2m+ suggests that the taps were turned off in January due to the uncertainty, but are now back on. That's the good bit, and welcome news to me.

On the other hand, my heart sank a bit when I read that we were going back for McGuire. I knew it would dredge up the recent past (not that we needed reminding), and today it's clear that he's gone cold on us. However, he has left the door ajar, so you never know. Rovers have gone in early, and it sounds like we're going to pull out all the stops to try to get him.

I hope it comes to a conclusion quickly, however. One way or the other. We really don't want to be getting bogged down on one name, and waiting all summer for his decision. We did that with Deniz Undav last January, only to come home empty handed on deadline day when the backup deal for another player couldn't get done in time. The club needs to start learning these lessons or it'll be the same stuff all over again.

Here is the Duncan McGuire interview on Studs Up. When he says "it would take a lot" for him to come to Rovers, he does the money gesture.

Elliott Jackson suggests reports of a Rovers official travelling to Orlando to chat with Duncan McGuire are wide of the mark. It's certainly not Waggott, with whom I presume he's been speaking to for his latest article.

I would think after McGuire's latest interview, Rovers probably won't even try. Time to move on.

I fully agree. He came across as a bit of a tosser in that interview.

I'd say he was bang on about Lewis Travis. JDT mysteriously imo insisted on playing him as an attacking midfielder which he most definitely isn't. He may as well have asked Wahlstad to play in that role. He should get on better with Eustace but we cant predict anything without knowing all the ins and outs.

Rovers plotting a move for 25-year old midfielder Joe Sbarra.

I've never heard of him either. That's because he is a free agent who last played for National League side Solihull Moors. o_O

New club philosophy, cheaper the better.
😡
He scored against AFC Fylde in February this year. Anyone know any Fylde fans who may rem him?

I was in two minds as to whether or not to post it, but it's out there, and this is the speculation thread... My call on it would be bollocks and potential trouble-making.
