One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that, now the Venkys usual funding doesn't seem like it will be an issue this summer, that we're back in for McGuire on a permanent deal for £2m+ suggests that the taps were turned off in January due to the uncertainty, but are now back on. That's the good bit, and welcome news to me.
On the other hand, my heart sank a bit when I read that we were going back for McGuire. I knew it would dredge up the recent past (not that we needed reminding), and today it's clear that he's gone cold on us. However, he has left the door ajar, so you never know. Rovers have gone in early, and it sounds like we're going to pull out all the stops to try to get him.
I hope it comes to a conclusion quickly, however. One way or the other. We really don't want to be getting bogged down on one name, and waiting all summer for his decision. We did that with Deniz Undav last January, only to come home empty handed on deadline day when the backup deal for another player couldn't get done in time. The club needs to start learning these lessons or it'll be the same stuff all over again.
