Thank you for everything Super Sammy!
I thought you were a bit mean with your scores. Everybody put in a real contribution today.Pears 8
Pulled off a good save onto the bar when in the second-half. Was confident. The team needed a good performance from him today, and they got it.
Brittain 6
Put your bloody foot through the ball when you get a good sight of goal. Jesus! He got forward well, but he was complete crap when it mattered.
McFadzean 8
Solid as a rock at the back. Mopped up everything we left behind. His presence really makes a difference in spite of his age. I reckon another year would be good value for money for Rovers.
Carter 6
Made a total mess up with his header back in the first half which should have seen Vardy put the hosts a goal up. Lucky boy.
Chrisene 7
Solid and assured in both attack and defence throughout. Got forward into good positions, and defended well when questions were asked. Probably his best performance for us when we needed it most.
Pickering 8
Gave McFadzean a run for his money as our best defender today. Nothing ventured going forward, but we didn't need that from him today. Had everything mopped up at a canter. He's not a marauding wing-back, but he has really matured to learn his positional and defensive abilities in the last couple of seasons for such a young man.
Tronstad 7
Held the for well and stuck his foot in when it mattered. Was a little bit outdone on a couple of occasions, but overall good, and gave enough protection for our defenders.
Rankin-Costello 5
Again, I feel he is a little lost in midfield, and it's hard to put my finger on identifying his role there. In the first half, there were a couple of occasions where he made poor choices that broke down our attacks. Getting into decent positions is one thing, but not doing anything there is pointless.
Dolan 6
Worked hard, as usual, but again, as usual, it's to little avail. Fancy tricks on the ball are OK against hungover opponents, but there was no effect to much of what he did.
Gallagher 5
Poorest player on the pitch for us. He checked out. in January when he didn't get a move. Won a few headers flicked on to nowhere. Felt his effort was lacking (again) today. Time for a proper talisman in that position next season.
Szmodics 10
Man of the Match. Scored when it mattered. Twice. Will probably go in summer, but this man has saved us from the drop with his goals. Absolutely loved (although held my breath momentarily) when he celebrated his second goal before bagging it.
As for the subs
Ayari 6
I didn't notice much, although it could be the drink. Not his usual impact off the bench. Would like to see him loaned here again next season because he's generally shown class in midfield.
Buckley 6
Drink. Didn't notice.
Garrett 6
Drink. Didn't notice.
Once my head is clear tomorrow, I'm going to post some more general thoughts on the game and on Rovers. Bet you can't wait.
That because I'm mean, Al.I thought you were a bit mean with your scores.
Medals for second place? Unbelievable. The only Rovers player to win a medal in the last 2 decades (and the only one likely to in the next 2 decades). Gotta take what you can get . . LOL!View attachment 5641
You needed another object of scorn and derision since Ben left didn’t you?Just a gripe and I don't want to be churlish but who the hell was supposed to be picking winks and akgun up as the ball was played back to them? Only the save of the season from pears prevented this becoming 1-1. Oh wait it's ball watching Sam gallagher isn't it?

On a brighter note Steve you are joint winners with me of the Top 6 Predictions League! And you were the only predictor to say that Rovers would be as low in the table as they were. You said 13th!Well I was bottom of the "regular" predictors (yet again!) but I did call the fact that if Leicester had done the deal - it was our best hope
If we had gone there and they had needed something...it may well be a different story today
But it wasnt and we did what we had too thank the good "Sammy"
As things are today - I really fear for us next season - we have had 3 seasons of someone stepping up AA,BBD, and now SS, without those three we could well be down in Div1 or worse
Facts support the statement that when Gallagher plays we win more though. What can't speak can't lie ODB. If Leicester had scored then who knows what might have happened?
Well thats something - my pessimism paid off in the endOn a brighter note Steve you are joint winners with me of the Top 6 Predictions League! And you were the only predictor to say that Rovers would be as low in the table as they were. You said 13th!

I’ve watched the highlights so many times now and those goals by Sammie go down for me as the best Rovers goals since Shearer.
I’ve obviously also seen that incident you refer to many times and when you see it live I think Gallagher is not expecting JRC to completely miss his kick and the ball and put Rovers in such danger. I wouldn’t be too overly critical of Gallagher in this instance.
So you have changed your mind about him making a good centre back?Well tony with two opposing players standing unmarked and in oceans of space on the edge of our area someone has to take the flak.
